How to Create Your Favourite Scented Body Lotion Using Natural Oils
Nowadays, there are so many different products on the market, and the choice can be overwhelming. Especially when some products can cost a fortune, you wonder whether it’s even worth purchasing them in the first place – surely you must be able to make them yourself.
If you’re looking to make your own body lotions, you’re in the right place, as this is everything you need to know about making your very own homemade body lotion using your favourite essential oils.
How to make a scented body lotion
– ½ cup almond oil
– ¼ cup coconut oil
– ¼ cup beeswax pellets
– 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
– 2 tablespoons shea butter or cocoa butter
– Essential oils of your choice
The first step after gathering your ingredients is to combine both the almond and coconut oil in a bowl along with the beeswax and shea or cocoa butter. Set this bowl above a saucepan of boiling water on your stove, so the warm water melts the ingredients together evenly. While the ingredients are melting, remember to stir occasionally in order to mix them thoroughly throughout the lotion.
If you haven’t got any almond oil, it is possible to use jojoba oil, or any other liquid oil of your preference – this ingredient ensures that the lotion has a smooth consistency which can be easily spread over your skin, so it’s an important element of the recipe, but it’s up to you which oil you use. However, make sure it’s a liquid oil.
Once the ingredients on the stove have melted completely, add in your vitamin E oil. While this oil isn’t totally necessary for the formula, vitamin E is a powerful ingredient for soothing and rejuvenating the skin, so it’s an effective ingredient to use here.
At this stage, you can also add a few drops of the essential oils of your choice. There’s no need to add lots of these oils, as they’re already very concentrated and a little goes a long way. However, a few drops should be enough for this quantity, and you can add more or less depending on the strength you desire.
When adding an essential oil, there are so many options to choose from, and it’s up to you which you decide to mix in. You could either go for your favourite scent or find something with specific healing properties for your skin.
After a while, the lotion’s consistency will thicken a little as it cools, so it’s a good idea to put it into a container straight away to prevent mess. Because this lotion is quite thick, it works better in a tub or jar rather than a pump, as it may get stuck in a pump.
